28 May Earning PDUs Are Changing From Dec, 2015 – What You Need To Know

Of late, PMI has announced the major changes in CCR (Continue Certification Requirements) program to renew the PMP Certification Exam that will be effective from December 2015. The rules of earning PDU’s are going to be completely changed and reporting them will be different.

So, what you need to know the rules for earning PDUs. Let me first tell you the current CCR guidelines so that you can understand the change easily.

At present, PDUs can be earned in two groups and 6 categories – first Education, and second – Professional Services (i.e. GIVING BACK to profession).  Categories A, B, and C fall under Education and categories D, E & F fall under Professional Service means Giving Back.



Cat A: Education through REP & PMI Components – No limit

Cat B: Education from other training providers – No limit

Cat C: Self Directed Learning – Max 30 PDUs


Giving Back

Cat D: Creating Project Management Knowledge

Cat E: Volunteer Service

Cat F: Work as Professional – Max 15 PDUs

Cat D, E & F (all together): – Max 45 PDUs



PMI has reinforced and reiterated about talent triangle i.e. PDUs will be now aligned in the following triangles -


You’ll have to earn minimum 35 PDUs from Education from Dec-2015. For better understanding go through the following table:

Total PDUs = 35


No of PDUs
  1. 8 PDUs from Technical Project Management
  2. 8 PDUs from Leadership
  3. 8 PDUs from Strategic & Business Management Education.
  4. Remaining 11 PDUs can be earned from either of these skills. There is no maximum limit specified for Education.
Giving Back (Volunteering, Creating new knowledge & Working as professional) Maximum 25 PDUs.From Working as professional, you can earn only 8 PDUs (it is 15 in current system).There is no minimum limit specified for Giving Back.
